About the
American Cancer Society
We were surprised to find that it is not only fun to volunteer for this organization, it can be very rewarding After only a short time we were able to see positive results in several ways: Letters from grateful former smokers, positive responses from legislative visits, and best of all, statistics confirming a strong decline in cancer deaths from tobacco related diseases.
Another unexpected outcome was the many new friends we found in the staff and volunteers. It is quite an experience to get together with a large group of selfless people, most of them either cancer survivors, or friends and family of cancer patients. Their only concern is to see that others don’t have to experience the devastation of cancer. They are generous with both their time, money, and love.
